What is TMD/TMJ?

At Integrative Dental Arts, we offer more than cosmetic dentistry services. We can also help with jaw alignment problems. Many people in the Agoura Hills, Thousand Oaks area rely on us for help with TMD symptoms. TMJ (temporomandibular joint) is the joint that can develop pain and dysfunction called TMD (temporomandibular disorder). The Integrative Dental Arts team on the border of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties has extensive training in this area. Dr. Kathleen Carson has vast neuromuscular expertise and can diagnose and treat TMJ pain/TMD.

Physiologic Neuromuscular Dentistry

Your teeth, nerves, muscles and joints are parts of a body system that must function in harmony in order for you to achieve overall oral health, balance & beauty.

The goal of physiologic neuromuscular dentistry is to optimize bite and jaw alignment. We achieve this by finding the best resting jaw position and relaxing the jaw muscles.

JAWS THAT ARE UNBALANCED AND OUT OF ALIGNMENT CAN LEAD TO:

  • Clenching and grinding
  • TMJ Pain/TMD symptoms
  • Headaches
  • Vertigo/motion sickness
  • Tinnitus
  • Airway obstructions
  • Gum recession
  • Chipped and broken teeth
  • And much more
